The Velenje Promenade

The so-called Promenade is located in the very centre of the town of Velenje. From the northern side, the Promenade ends at the Youth Square (Trg mladosti, near the Velenje School Centre and the Velenje Health Centre), while its southern border is Cankarjeva Street. Thanks to its location, the Promenade is a hub that delimitates yet connects the various municipal zones from health and education to central activities. It is the fundamental communicational artery that secondary school and university students (as well as others) use on a daily basis to access the town’s centre, downtown Velenje so to speak. The River Paka crosses the Promenade right through the middle effectively dividing it in two parts. A new bridge connects the riverbanks, while the streets Vodnikova and Prešernova, parallel to the river, will also traverse the Promenade. A new two storey carpark also forms part of the Promenade, located on the northern side of the area under construction next to Tomšičeva Street, which will also provide access to the facility as per the current designs. The Velenje Health Centre and a block of flats are located to the east of the new building, while the Velenje School Centre is on the western side. The open spaces of the Promenade extend towards the south.
