DESCRIPTION
The Štrekna Cycling Trail runs along the abandoned route of the former railway line. A section of the trail from Gornji Dolič to Slovenj Gradec and Dravograd has been opened for several years; on Tuesday, 21 May 2024, we inaugurated the last 9.4 km stretch from Velenje to Gornji Dolič, which runs through the Huda luknja gorge.

This trail is family-friendly.
The Štrekna Cycling Trail is 35 kilometres long. It is a beautifully arranged cycling trail separated from the main road, which makes it especially appropriate for family cycling adventures. During the summer months, a bus with a trailer for transporting bicycles also runs on this trail, allowing you to return to your starting point.
After the opening of the new part of Štrekna, the path between Velenje and Dravograd is now fully connected; if you still have some energy remaining, the cycling trail also continues for 10 kilometres on the Austrian side, right to the bathing lake along the Drava River in Labot/Lavamünd.
Around Dravograd, you can also join the Drava Cycling Trail leading towards Radlje ob Dravi and Maribor.
Štrekna is a fully paved cycling trail which slowly climbs from Velenje (at an altitude of 411 m) towards Mislinja (at an altitude of 590 m) and then slowly descends for 25.5 kilometres on a road leading towards Slovenj Gradec and Dravograd (at an altitude of 341 m).

The Štrekna Cycling Trail begins in Selo pri Velenju (location); if you are a camping enthusiast, it is also a good idea to start your cycling adventure in the beautifully neat Camp Velenje where you can also borrow bicycles.
The new section of the cycling route from Velenje to Mislinja (9.4 km) runs through four tunnels and over four overpasses that lead the cyclists along and above the main road.
