DESCRIPTION
The cycling route along the Mislinjska Valley, Štrekna, is popular with Korošci and beyond and is considered one of the best organized cycling routes in Slovenia. This year, the bicycle bus Štrekna bus connects Velenje, Mislinjska and Drava valleys and Labot (Lavamünd) on the Austrian side.
In the summer heat, it is nice to cool down in Lake Velenje, therefore, this season too, the ride will be carried out directly to the lake on the return of the first ride, and at the same time, the afternoon ride will also start at the lake. The full timetable is available at the link below.
The Štrekna bus is a thirty-seater bus with a trailer for sixteen bikes. It runs on the route between Velenje, Gornji Dolič, Mislinja, Slovenj Gradec, Otiški Vrh, Dravograd and the bathing lake in Labot (Lavamünd) on the Austrian side. This year, it runs in the months of July, August and September on weekends and holidays.
Tickets can be bought on the bus or at the bus stations in Velenje and Slovenj Gradec.
The prices are set as the prices of intercity bus transport in Slovenia, and bicycle transportation is free;
for example, a ride for one person between Velenje and Dravograd costs 1.3 EUR, and to Labot in Austria an additional 2 EUR. Between Velenje and Dravograd, the bus will be able to stop at all existing bus stops, but for cyclists we recommend using the bus stops Velenje, Gornji Dolič, Mislinja, Slovenj Gradec, Otiški Vrh, Dravograd, Labot/Lavamünd and Labot/Lavamünd bathing lake. The drive between Velenje and Labot/Lavamünd takes 1 hour and 20 minutes.
In Labot, Austria, it is possible to transfer to a bus with a trailer for bicycles, which will drive to Wolfsberg in the Labot Valley, where the R10 cycle route, which is also popular among Slovenians, runs through the Labot Valley. The timetable of the Štrekna bus is also coordinated with the timetable of the summer bicycle train between Maribor and Pliberk. With the transfer in Dravograd, it is possible to connect cycling along Štrekna, the Drava cycle path and the cycle path through Labotska valley, as well as the use of public passenger transport.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
Length/time of the route: the entire length of the Štrekna cycling route between Gornji Dolič and Otiški Vrh is 24 kilometers, and to Labot there is an additional 13 kilometers of cycling along the Drava cycling route. A total of 37 km of asphalted and almost completely separated bicycle paths from traffic.
