The Lower Savinjska Valley is dubbed the valley of green gold. This moniker designated hops, this very particular plant, the essential ingredient of good beer. At Žalec, visit the world-famous and unique beer fountain and taste the drinks that contain the hops from Savinjska Valley. At the Hops and Brewing Eco-Museum of Slovenia, relive the stories of the hops farmers and that of Simon Kukec, the founder of the Laško brewery.

In Velenje on the banks of the River Paka, which is the lifeblood of Šaleška Valley, you will relive the stories of the pioneers and post-WWII voluntary workers, of comradeship and solidary. Under the watchful eye of the world’s biggest monument to Tito, you will tackle the challenges of street games and handle items that will surely bring a nostalgic smile to your face. At the end, you will enjoy your well-deserved socialist-era snack.

In the Dravska Valley, a genuine experience is guaranteed courtesy of the raftsmen from Carinthia. After a welcome of rye bread and schnapps at Muta, you will embark on a logging raft journey, which will be complemented by a stand-up comedian, the raft lasses, musicians, a hearty lunch with traditional fare and, at the end, a fun initiation ceremony to the guild of the raftsmen.

Next on the itinerary is Maribor on the banks of the Drava, Slovenia’s second largest city and the capital of Styria, which boasts the world’s oldest grapevine of the ‘modra kavčina’ variety, growing for over 400 years on the front of the port house, where you will learn about the heritage of the Drava Wine Country. The Old Vine House houses a wine shop with a great selection of wines, a wine-tasting room and a souvenir shop.
