Following in the footsteps of miners
Set out an underground advethours to discover how mining history shaped the Šaleška Valley.
Velenje first impresses you with an UNDERGROUND ADVENTURE at the Museum of the Coal Mining Of Slovenia. 160 meters below the earth’s surface, you’ll be waiting for a real underground adventure. You will learn about the development of the coal industry over time, the life of the miners more than 100 years ago, see as many as 18 scenes from the life and work of the miners, and finally refresh yourself with a real knapo snack.
We will drive to the old Velenja and visit the HOUSE OF MINERALS. We will look at a collection of over 4000 minerals and fossils from Slovenia and the world, including a unique piece of amber found in The Velenje Coal Miner in 2008.
Past THE VILLA BIANCA we will walk through THE CITY CENTRE and listen to the stories of the miners and the city that was created by the impact work. We’re going to take a look at the MINER’S MONUMENT and experience a symbolic leap over the skin.
The Museum of the Coal Industry of Slovenia is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and the Velenje Museum is closed on Monday.
